Sketch Dump 2 - Some Oldies

Intro

It’s been a while since I did a sketch blog, but don’t worry, there will be more. Recently I did some spring cleaning, and found ALL of the sketchbooks and printed art I’ve had over the years. It’s A LOT of stuff and I’ll be slowly adding photos of the sketchbooks to the site.

So today’s sketch dump is filled with older drawings for my “Frame Of Mind” series (which I will be un-privating from YouTube in a few weeks). I believe these should be dated to around 2017-2019. When I opened the sketchbook, I was kind of shocked because I forgot I storyboarded all of the shorts in a sketchbook (now I use an iPad). As I flipped the pages I saw so many storyboards of shorts I was never able to make and I also found storyboards I was able to use for future, storytime shorts. I also was surprised at just how well I was able to remember the stories from the boards themselves. Storyboarding was, and is not my strong suit, so seeing how I was able to remember some of these stories so clearly shows that I at least was able to get across the main points.

Another thing I should mention is that these scribbles are mostly production notes and asset sketches. The thing about making these shorts, is that they don’t really leave me much time to draw freely. Most of the time is spent drawing things for shorts. Since there’s so much to do with any given short, the drawings have to be simple, quick to make and easy to understand. To be honest, storyboarding is my least favorite aspect of animation. If I could skip it, I would.

But I digress. If you want to see the full images, you can click on the pictures.
